About Slemish Barn

We are located between the award winning floral village of Broughshane and the picturesque fishing village of Carnlough in an area know as The Braid, Gateway to the Glens. Slemish mountain is close by where St Patrick is reputed to have lived. We are also nearby the market town of Ballymena where there are good transport links to the rest of the province.

We are a contemporary, budget accommodation facility that can cater for numerous types of functions, parties, small weddings, conferences and groups. Based in the shadow of Slemish mountain.

We are looking to promote the local culture of Co. Antrim and beyond through our connections with the County Antrim and Derry Country Fiddlers Association (CADCFA) which is by some measure the largest traditional fiddling school in Ireland, and by exhibiting local arts and crafts within our premises.

Slemish Barn features 4 Private Rooms and 2 Dorms along with free WiFi and a terrace. We also offer pet-friendly accommodation in The Sheddings. Free private parking is available on site.

Slemish Barn Functions

Whatever the occasion, Slemish Barn can cater for groups of up to 40 people between our downstairs common room and upstairs function/ meeting room. As we are also a Hostel, accommodation can be provided based on availability.

We have two outside patios, with a beautiful backdrop of Slemish Mountain, that would provide an excellent space for outdoor parties/ family celebrations/ weddings and breathtaking photograph opportunities.

Pricing for our function facilities are per person and depend on the total number of people in your party and catering options. If catering is required, we have links with outside catering services whose menus are available on request.

Our Renewable Energy

We are promoting environmentally friendly living, through our investment in sustainable energy systems. The barn itself is ran on renewable energy as well as internally being made up of recycled materials.

We also have a strong sustainable theme with significant green energy systems and the building has been built and furnished with reclaimed and second-hand materials where possible.

Slemish Barn has invested in renewable energy systems with space heating and hot water provided by a 45 kW biomass boiler, a 90 tube thermal solar panel array and a solid fuel stove. There is also a mechanical heat recovery system.

Our Guests say

“Staff was so friendly. I got a flu and the owner took care of me and gave me tea. Never met such friendly people. The room was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was clean too and there's everthing you need for cooking. The breakfast include cereal and bread with marmalade. 🙂 The location is good to find with google maps. But if you come with the bus, just check the bus timetable, 'cause the bus doesn't drive that much. The property is near the giants causeway. I went there with the bus and the train. It was gorgeous! Thank you very much. If I go to north ireland again, I will stay here again. ”

“Awesome hostel..very homey and comfortable. If you like out of the way places with many walking and hiking trails this is the place for you. It is a clean and the owners are so helpful and accommodating. However, a car is needed to travel to this hostel, a bus does arrive from Ballymena 3 or 4 times a day but not on the weekends. There is a large kitchen to cook and a free breakfast consisting of toast and cereal ,milk is provided. The common area is so cozy, fireplace included. I highly recommend this hostel for singles and families”
